Goregaon Faces Rising Dust Pollution as Construction Activities Trigger Health Concerns

Dust pollution is becoming a concern in Goregaon as construction activities, trucks and uncleaned roads fill the air with particles. Residents demand BMC inspections, regular water sprinkling and stricter enforcement of pollution control measures.

Dust and soil particles filling the air in Goregaon during the morning hours have raised concerns over worsening pollution, with large-scale construction activities in the area emerging as a source of inconvenience for local residents.

Complaints have surfaced about several parts of the locality appearing covered in dust during the morning. Residents allege that adequate measures are not being taken at construction sites to control dust pollution. The absence of regular water sprinkling, in particular, is reportedly aggravating the situation.

Development projects and construction activities across Goregaon and surrounding areas involve the extensive use of soil, sand and construction materials. Dust generated at construction sites spreads with the wind, reaching nearby roads, residential buildings and shops. The movement of vehicles also causes dust settled on roads to rise into the air again.

As a result, residents are facing dusty surroundings on a daily basis. According to local residents, the problem becomes particularly troublesome in the morning when people leave for work, children go to school and senior citizens step out for their morning walks.

Lack of Regular Water Sprinkling Raises Dust Concerns

One of the primary complaints raised by residents is the lack of regular water sprinkling to control dust generated during construction activities.

They believe that regular water sprinkling at construction sites, on nearby roads and in dust-affected areas could help reduce the amount of dust in the air.

Residents have also stressed the need to cover construction materials, ensure the safe transportation of debris and enforce prescribed pollution control measures at construction sites.

Ongoing construction work, soil scattered across roads and trucks transporting construction materials are contributing to rising pollution, causing inconvenience to local residents.

At around 7:45 am, a haze-like situation was visible in several parts of Goregaon. The presence of dust particles in the air made the effects of pollution clearly noticeable.

Large-scale construction work is underway in Goregaon, and residents have called for an investigation into whether pollution control regulations are being followed at these sites.

BJP leader Jaiprakash Thakur said, “Construction work, soil spread across roads and trucks transporting construction materials are increasing pollution, causing inconvenience to local residents. At around 7:45 am, a haze-like situation was visible in several parts of Goregaon. The presence of dust particles in the air made the effects of pollution clearly noticeable. Large-scale construction work is underway in Goregaon, and it needs to be investigated whether pollution control regulations are being followed. The Municipal Commissioner, the state government and the concerned pollution control department need to take the matter seriously.”

Mahendra Prasad Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party's Goregaon Assembly unit, said development work in Goregaon must go hand in hand with the protection of residents' health and a clean environment.

He said that if pollution control measures are effectively implemented at construction sites in time, the inconvenience caused by dust could be reduced considerably.

Yadav said it remains to be seen what steps the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) takes to address the problem.

Residents Demand Action from BMC

Residents have urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to take note of the growing dust and pollution problem in Goregaon.

They have called on the concerned departments to inspect construction sites and ensure compliance with pollution control regulations.

Necessary action should be taken at locations where adequate dust control arrangements are not in place, residents said.

They have also demanded regular cleaning and water sprinkling on affected roads, along with effective measures at construction sites to prevent dust from spreading into the air.

With construction activities continuing across Goregaon, residents are seeking stronger enforcement of pollution control measures to address the worsening dust problem and reduce the impact on daily life.

The demand for inspections and corrective action has placed the spotlight on the BMC and the concerned authorities, with residents awaiting measures to ensure that development work does not come at the cost of a clean and healthy environment.
